What These Terms Cover

These are Spotify's terms for paid plans (Premium Individual, Student, Duo, Family, etc.). They explain how subscriptions work, who qualifies, how billing and cancellation operate, and what happens with free trials. They incorporate Spotify's broader Terms of Use and Privacy Policy by reference.

Billing and Cancellation

Most paid plans renew automatically and indefinitely — you keep being charged every month until you actively cancel. You can cancel anytime through your account page, and access continues until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. If you're on a free trial, cancelling immediately revokes access to Premium. If you're on a paid trial (a discounted introductory price), cancelling lets you keep access until the trial period ends, then drops you to free.

Plan-Specific Rules Worth Knowing

  • Family/Duo plans require all members to live at the same address, which Spotify verifies (using Google Maps) at sign-up and may re-verify later. If you switch from an individual plan to join a family plan mid-cycle, you forfeit any unused paid days — no refund.
  • Student plans are discounted but capped at four 12-month "Discount Periods" total (up to 4 years). After that, you're automatically moved to full-price Individual unless you cancel first. Student status is verified by a third party called SheerID, which receives your name, school, email, and date of birth.
  • Hulu bundle (for students): Hulu can put your account on an "inactivity hold" if you haven't watched anything in 14 days, logging you out of all devices automatically.

Changes Spotify Can Make

Spotify explicitly reserves the right to change, suspend, or remove any paid plan, feature, or included content "at any time and for any reason." This includes the amount of audiobook listening time included in a plan. Spotify can also modify or end trials at any time with notice and no financial liability to you.
