Meta adds a Philippines-specific Privacy Notice covering local legal rights and data processing bases
DETECTED · 8/1/2026, 9:01:35 PMThe new policy inserts a dedicated Philippines Privacy Notice section that did not exist before. It explains the legal grounds Meta relies on to process data under the Philippines Data Privacy Act of 2012, lists the rights Philippine users have, and explains how to exercise them or file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (NPC). The rest of the policy is unchanged.
If you are in the Philippines, this change is relevant and mostly positive: it explicitly names your rights (access, correction, data portability, and erasure) and tells you how to use them. It also confirms that you can withdraw consent at any time and object to processing based on Meta's "legitimate interests." If you are outside the Philippines, this section does not apply to you and nothing in your existing rights or data handling has changed.
“This notice applies to our processing of your information to support Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other products and features offered by Meta... to the extent such processing is subject to Philippines law”
NEW · Makes clear the notice is jurisdiction-specific and supplements, rather than replaces, the main Privacy Policy.“Under Philippines law you have the right to access, rectify, port and erase your data.”
NEW · Explicitly states four key data rights for Philippine users that were not previously named in the policy.“You can also lodge a complaint with the NPC by contacting them directly.”
NEW · Tells Philippine users they have a regulatory body they can escalate complaints to, independent of Meta.
