Meta removed its Philippines-specific Privacy Notice from the global policy
DETECTED · 5/29/2026, 10:02:26 AMThe only substantive change in this update is the removal of a dedicated Philippines Privacy Notice section that previously appeared between the contact information and the main processing-purposes section. That section explained Meta's legal bases for processing data under Philippine law (the Data Privacy Act of 2012), listed specific rights available to Philippine users, and described how to exercise or object to data processing. Everything else in the policy is identical.
If you are a user in the Philippines, the rights and legal-basis information that was previously spelled out directly in this policy — including your rights to access, rectify, port, and erase data, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests — are no longer stated here. Meta has not said where this information now lives. Users in all other countries are unaffected; the rest of the policy is unchanged.
“Philippines Privacy Notice This notice applies to our processing of your information to support Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other products...subject to Philippines law, including the Data Privacy Act of 2012”
OLD · This was the opening of a multi-paragraph section detailing specific legal bases and rights for Philippine users — it is entirely absent from the new version.“Under Philippines law you have the right to access, rectify, port and erase your data.”
OLD · An explicit statement of data rights for Philippine users has been removed with no replacement text in the new policy.“You can also lodge a complaint with the NPC by contacting them directly. Contact the Data Protection Officer for Meta Platforms, Inc.”
OLD · Guidance on how Philippine users could escalate complaints to their national regulator is no longer present in the policy.
