https://x.com/en/privacyWhat X (formerly Twitter) Collects and Does With Your Data
X collects a large amount of information about you — not just what you post, but also how you browse, what devices you use, where you are, and data about you that comes from advertisers and other third parties. Even if you are not logged in, X tracks your IP address, browser, pages visited, and more. If you use paid features, X also stores your full payment card details.
How Your Data Is Used
Your data is used to run the platform, serve you targeted ads, personalize your feed, measure ad effectiveness, and conduct research. Notably, X states it may use your information to train machine learning and AI models. It also shares data with "third-party collaborators" who, unless you opt out, can use your data for their own independent purposes — including training their own AI models. This is a significant and easy-to-miss clause.
Who Sees Your Data
Your profile and posts are public by default. Beyond that, X shares your data with advertisers, service providers, business partners, affiliated companies, and app developers. Data about you can also flow through X's public API to outside developers and websites. If X is sold or merges with another company, your data goes with it.
Your Rights and Choices
You can access, download, or correct your data through your account settings. You can delete your account, but there is a 30-day window before deletion is permanent. Some data — like identifiers tied to a suspended account — may be kept indefinitely. X says it does not sell your personal data in the traditional sense, but the third-party collaborator sharing described above comes close to a functional equivalent.
