What This Policy Covers

This is a supplemental document to X's (formerly Twitter's) main Privacy Policy. It breaks down in table form exactly why X processes your data, what data is used for each purpose, and — for users in the EU, UK, and EFTA countries — the legal justification X relies on for each type of processing.

What X Does With Your Data

X collects a wide range of information: your account details, posts, Direct Messages, payment info, location, cookies, log data, and data purchased or received from advertising partners. This data is used to run the platform, rank your timeline, show you ads (both on and off X), measure how well those ads worked, build inferences about you (age, gender, interests), train AI and machine learning models, and send you non-service notifications. X also uses your data to let advertisers exclude certain audiences from seeing their campaigns — meaning your data can be used to decide you won't see an ad, not just that you will.

Identity Verification and Biometric Data

If you verify your identity for X Premium, Creator Subscriptions, or Ads Revenue Share, X collects a photo of your government ID, a selfie, and face biometric data. This data is shared with a third-party processor called Persona. For Premium/safety purposes, X does not store it directly, and it's held for up to 30 days. For financial programs (Creator Subscriptions, Ads Revenue Share), X directly stores your full name, address, and a hashed government ID number for as long as you participate in the program.

AI Training

X explicitly states it may use your public posts and associated metadata to train machine learning and generative AI models. You can opt out by protecting your posts (making them followers-only) or deleting them, or by using a specific opt-out control X says it provides.
