Who you're dealing with: Discord Inc. (US) is responsible for most users' data. If you're in the European Economic Area, Discord Netherlands BV is the controller instead.
What Discord collects and why: When you use Discord, the company collects your account details (username, email, phone, birthday), everything you post or upload, payment information if you buy something, and a stream of behavioral data — which servers you join, who you message, what games you're playing, and how you navigate the app. Your device's IP address, operating system, and browser details are also collected automatically. Discord says it uses all of this to run the service, keep it safe, personalize your experience, and show you relevant sponsored content (like "Quests"). It does not claim to sell your personal information to third parties.
How your data is shared: Your data goes to cloud and payment vendors (Google, Stripe, PayPal), advertising platforms (to help Discord find new users and measure ad performance), related Discord companies, third-party bots and apps added to servers you join, and potentially to law enforcement or in a business sale. Content you post in public or large servers can be read by anyone, and Discord may use that public content to train internal systems for moderation and service improvement.
Your controls: You can request a copy of your data, delete your account, edit or delete your messages and servers, and adjust privacy settings in User Settings to limit data use for personalization and service improvement. EEA and some other regional users have formal rights to access, correct, delete, and port their data, or object to processing.
